7 Rules to Follow When Wearing Jeans this Spring

Spring is in the air, well almost at least. March 20 marks the official start of the spring season, meaning the temperatures will become warmer and the plants will begin to blossom. With this seasonal transition, however, comes the perfect opportunity for men and women alike to update their wardrobe. While there’s no better choice of pants than jeans, there are a few rules you should follow when sporting denim this spring season.

Watch the Fade

There’s nothing wrong with choosing a pair of lightly faded denim jeans for the spring season, though you should use caution to ensure they aren’t too faded. Over time, denim will gradually fade. This isn’t a bad thing, as many people prefer the vintage/aged look of faded jeans. If your jeans are overly faded, however, they’ll look bland, in which case you should replace them with a new pair of jeans. So, how do you know if your jeans are too faded? It really depends on when and how you intend to wear them. But if someone mistakes your faded jeans for being “white,” they are probably too faded and should be replaced.

Check the Length

Something else to consider when choosing denim jeans for the spring season is the length. In other words, how far down do the jeans go? A pair of fitted jeans should stop just past the ankles, allowing for enough space to place the bottom of the jeans over your shoes or footwear. If they are shorter than this length, a portion of your ankle may be exposed when wearing them. If they are longer, the bottom of your jeans may drag on the ground — and that’s something that usually causes damage over time. Check the length of your jeans to ensure they aren’t too long or too short.

Invest in Custom-Fitted Jeans

Of course, you can always invest in a new pair of custom-fitted jeans if your current denim is too long or too short. Rather than buying your jeans from a local retail or department store, however, it’s recommended that you buy them from the denim experts here at MakeYourOwnJeans. We allow custom sizing on all of your jeans. When ordering, simply specify your body measurements and we’ll use those measurements to customize your jeans. This takes the burden of “hoping” that you find the right pair of jeans off your shoulders. As long as you provide us with the right measurements, you can rest assured knowing that you are getting the perfect fit. And with the spring season fast approaching, there’s no better time than the present to invest in a pair of custom-fitted jeans.

Dye Your Jeans

Don’t get me wrong; not all jeans need to be dyed. In fact, most jeans never require dyeing, especially when properly cared for. But if you have a pair of overly faded jeans, or if you have a pair of jeans that you wish to change the color of, you can certainly dye them. Dyeing is a cheap and easy way to revitalize the color of your jeans. You can buy packs of fabric dye at most craft stores for just a couple bucks a piece. Simply follow the directions on the back and you’ll have a pair of newly colored jeans in no time at all.

It’s important to note that dyeing jeans can be somewhat messy. Therefore, it’s a good idea to wear old clothes along with a pair of latex gloves. Being that dye is intended to stain, it will likely leave stains in your clothes if you accidentally spill. To prevent this from happening, try to use caution when handling the dye, especially around any clothes or accessories that you don’t want dyed.

Read the Care Label

When was the last time that you looked at the care label for your jeans? Most people rarely, if ever, read the care label. As such, they unknowingly expose their jeans to damage and harm. Just because one pair of jeans allows for traditional drying via a clothes dryer doesn’t necessarily mean that another pair of jeans does. Nuances in the fabric and craftsmanship can create subtle differences in handling and caring for the jeans. And failure to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations could result in serious damage. So if you haven’t done so already, take a few minutes to check the care label of your jeans, making a note of the manufacturer’s recommendations. If needed, write this information down on a sticky note for later reference.

Embrace the Colors

You don’t have to necessarily wear a bright-colored pair of jeans, but you should certainly incorporate bright colors into your overall outfit. When you think of spring, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? For many people, it’s bright colors. Looking outside at the spring landscape reveals a plethora of bright colors, ranging from yellow and blue to green, red, orange and more. Incorporating some of these bright colors into your outfit creates a warmer, more appropriate attire for the spring season.

Slim Fit

Denim jeans are available in more than a dozen different “fits,” one of which is slim. Slim fit is arguably the single most popular, however, as it’s comfortable, stylish and looks great on just about anyone. As the name suggests, slim fit jeans are characterized by a slimmer fit through the thighs and legs. While many other jeans have a tendency to flare towards the bottom, slim fit jeans remain straight through this area. This design creates the appearance of a slimmer body, which is something that many people hope to achieve when choosing clothes. You don’t have to limit yourself to only wearing slim fit jeans, but you should certainly include them in your wardrobe for the spring season.
