Are your jeans constantly wrinkled? Denim is a soft, durable material consisting of cotton. Even with these attractive properties, though, it’s not immune to wrinkles. Whether your jeans are made of plain denim or stretch denim, they may wrinkle. Below are some of the top causes of wrinkled jeans.
#1) Overloading the Washing Machine
You can wash your jeans in the washing machine, but try not to overload it. Overloading the washing machine with too many garments may lead to wrinkles. If you wash your jeans with a dozen other garments, for instance, they may develop wrinkles. There won’t be enough space for your jeans to move around while being washed, in which case they’ll bunch up and wrinkle. A simple solution is to wash your jeans in smaller loads.
#2) The Wrong Size
Choosing jeans in the wrong size may lead to wrinkles. Jeans are trousers, and like most other trousers, they are available in different sizes. You can typically find them in different waist and length sizes. If you accidentally choose jeans that are too big for your body, you may struggle to protect them from wrinkles.
Jeans that are too big are prone to wrinkles. Even if they are just one or two sizes too big for your body, they may succumb to wrinkles. You’ll need to choose jeans in the right size for your body to prevent this from happening. Make sure the waist and length of the jeans match your own body’s measurements.
#3) Exposure to Heat
Prolonged exposure to heat may cause your jeans to wrinkle. Denim and other textiles have molecular bonds. The molecular bonds within denim are responsible for holding the individual denim fibers together. Heat, however, can break these molecular bonds. Over time, heat will separate the joined molecules, which can lead to wrinkles.
#4) Dry Denim
While there’s no such thing as wrinkle-proof denim, some types of denim are better protected from wrinkles than others. Washed denim comes out on top in terms of wrinkle protection. It’s washed in water during protection. Not only does this soften the denim, but washing also minimizes the risk of wrinkles.
Dry denim, on the other hand, isn’t washed during protection. Both washed denim and dry denim have their own advantages. Some people prefer the bold and dark color of dry denim, for example, whereas others prefer the softer texture of washed denim. Regardless, you may want to choose washed denim jeans if you’re worried about wrinkles.
#5) Poor Folding
Another common cause of wrinkled jeans is poor folding. The safest way to store jeans is to place them on a clothes hanger. You can slide them through the center of a clothes hanger, after which you can hang the jeans in your closet. The clothes hanger will allow your jeans to fall naturally so that they retain their original shape. Alternatively, you can store your jeans by folding them. If you’re going to fold your jeans, however, you’ll need to use the right folding method to protect them from wrinkles.
Folding jeans is a simple process that only requires a few basic steps. Start by laying your jeans out on a flat surface. Next, make a single horizontal fold by taking one pant leg and folding it over the other pant leg. You can then make a vertical fold by taking the top of your jeans and folding it over the bottom. Repeat this same vertical fold once more, after which you should be left with a neatly folded pair of jeans.
#6) Allowing Jeans to Sit in the Washing Machine
Are you guilty of leaving your jeans in the washing machine after they’ve finished washing? Not everyone transfers their jeans to the dryer immediately after washing them. They may wait over an hour, which will inadvertently increase the risk of wrinkles.
The longer you let your jeans sit in the washing machine, the greater the risk of wrinkles. By transferring them from the washing machine to the dryer as quickly as possible, you can protect your jeans from wrinkles.
#7) Low Humidity
Low humidity can cause your jeans to wrinkle. Humidity is a measurement for airborne moisture vapor. You may not be able to see it, but there’s moisture floating around in the air. The amount of moisture in the air at any given time is represented by the humidity level. Low humidity means levels of airborne moisture vapor are low. In addition to dry skin, low humidity such as this can cause your jeans to wrinkle.
#8) Not Following Manufacturer’s Instructions
Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when cleaning and caring for your jeans. Most jeans come with a care tag. Also known as a care label, it features instructions on how to wash, dry and maintain the jeans. The care tag is typically located in a discreet area, such as the inside of the waistband or the inside of a pant leg. After buying a new pair of jeans, take a few minutes to find it. You can then familiarize yourself with the manufacturer’s instructions on how to wash and care for the jeans. By following these instructions, your jeans will be better protected from wrinkles.
#9) Stuffing Into Luggage
Don’t stuff your jeans into luggage. When traveling, you may want to bring one or more pairs of jeans with you. You can place them inside of luggage, but you should use caution to ensure that they aren’t crammed together with all of your other garments and items. Stuffing jeans into luggage will only lead to wrinkles. The crammed-together jeans may not sustain any permanent damage. Nonetheless, they’ll develop wrinkles that turn them into an eyesore. After arriving at your destination, you’ll have to iron to the jeans to smooth out the wrinkles so that you can wear them in style.
