When you think of companies at the forefront of fashion, Google probably doesn’t come to mind. After all, why would the world’s leading search engine have an interest in fashion? Google actually knows a great deal about fashion trends, thanks to the vast amount of search data it collects from users. The Mountain View company has even begun to publish some of this data, revealing the top fashion trends of 2015 according to change in search volume.
Tulle Skirts
In its Think With Google report, the search engine giant revealed that tulle skirts are making a comeback. Google says that searches of tulle skirts have increased 34% from January 2014 to January 2015. Why are so many users searching for tulle skirts? Google didn’t reveal the reason behind this trend, but it’s safe to assume that many people are seeking them because they are comfortable, stylish and unique. The unique style and ultra lightweight feel of tulle makes it the perfect fabric for a cool summertime skirt.
“Originating on the West Coast, the tulle skirt trend is making its way across the U.S. according to Google searches. Consumers are seeking this skirt in all colors of the rainbow (and even in rainbow), but the most popular colors are the classics: black and white,” wrote Google in its report.
Midi Skirts
Tulle skirts isn’t the only fashion trend that’s gaining momentum this year. Google’s report also found searches of midi skirts to be on the rise? This begs the question: what the heck is a midi skirt? As Google notes, it’s somewhere between a maxi and mini skirt, usually stopping around the knees. They were popular back in the 1960s, with women of all ages wearing them. over the years, however, the popularity surrounding midi skirts began to die — until now, that is. Over the past three years, searches for midi skirts have increased nine fold, attesting to the growing popularity or this garment.
